Why do we Doubt?

If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham."

Christ uttered this declaration as an axiom, a fundamental proposition, allowing of no dispute. Now as no Christian questions the validity of this assertion, is it not inconsistent for any Christian to question or oppose the declaration, "If ye [material men] were the children of God, ye would do the works of God," which is virtually the contention of Christian Science?

Jesus says that life eternal is to know the only true God. Human mind knows disease, pain, suffering, death; the diametrical opposites of "Life eternal." Now how in the name of all that is rational and practical in human experience, can these two direct opposites both be true, or be made to coalesce? How can human-mind knowledge be an emanation of the Mind which Jesus declared it is "Life eternal" to know? Such reasonings and conclusions as overlook absolute oppositions and negations in premises would never pass undiscovered, much less be accepted and become current, in any of the world's affairs; yet they are unchallenged and accepted by the Christian world at large in the one matter of most vital and eternal import,—the facts of Being; and the inexorably consistent Science of Truth, which does challenge and lay bare these irreconcilable discrepancies is pronounced by some unreasonable and dangerous! "Consistency thou art [indeed] a jewel," but how few care to "seek" thee, or desire thee, or even recognize thy unadulterated Light as they pass on to grasp the counterfeits of carnal-mind reflection.
