The Rebuilding of Human Consciousness

One of the first demands made upon the student of Christian Science is the acquisition of a new habit of thought respecting man. His previous ideas relative to himself have been largely material, and to lose sight of this old self in consciousness, and see and think of himself only as a reflection of Mind, is the task set before him.

St. Paul in counseling the Ephesians said : "If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: that ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; and be renewed in the spirit of your mind; and that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness." The problem thus presented is the realization of the true self in consciousness, the putting off of the old man and the putting on of the new.

"It doth not yet appear what we shall be" in the fulness of the spiritual life, for we are all more or less under bondage to a sense of limitation, but that real life of the spirit is the child of both aspiration and of promise, and as we "press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God," we shall advance the more rapidly as we make sure of our steps.
