Faithfulness in the Little Things

If Christian Scientists do not watch the "little things," but allow them to pass undiscovered, these "little things" become avenues for error to effect its work later on, and they will then wonder why it is that they are having "such a hard time." They never will know why it is, until they awaken to the fact that they have not been working from Principle.

A Christian Scientist cannot serve both God and his own will; he must surrender his will to the divine Will. The reason we are in trouble sometimes is because we are not bringing our lives up to our profession, and we do not always notice the "little" errors of which we are guilty. It is well to remind ourselves of these things, and that often.

There is always a cause for discordant human conditions, and almost always the cause is with us. The old thought, or the "old man," is still so strongly to the front in all we do or try to do, that we must watch and pray without ceasing, to be able to do all our work scientifically. Many of us are not careful enough, and as a result of our laziness in this respect, error is continually holding us in discord. The best way to get out of work is to do it, not talk about it or worry over it, but do it and get it out of the way, and be ready for the next demand. It is the fretting about what we have to do which makes it hard, not the work itself. Work should and will make us happy and useful, and keep us free from error.
