One morning I awoke and began reading I John, 3
One morning I awoke and began reading I John, 3. Then I turned to the word "Love" in the index of Science and Health and looked up a part of the references given there. I got up with a greater sense of Love than I had ever experienced before.
During the forenoon a member of the family who had been in childhood subject to spasms, was suddenly attacked with a violent spasm. I heard the sounds from an adjoining room, but felt no disturbance whatever, having no sense of anything unusual occurring, until my sister came to me and said : "They want you to come in there." I went in and found the mother overcome with fear, perfectly helpless, the father bending over the afflicted one, who was writhing in agony upon the bed.
He made way for me at once, and with a great compassion born of Love I placed my arms around her, and spoke to her frightened sense in the words of the Master: " 'Be still!' you are all right, darling. Do not fear." She immediately began to grow quiet, and in five minutes I left her with the smile of reflected Love on her lips. In a few minutes more she was sleeping. Afterwards the thought of hate seemed to obtain in the mind of one present, but I realized only Love, and praise and thanksgiving rose high in my heart as I thought, though they may seem to hate us they cannot hinder us from loving them. Nothing can prevent us from loving. Whatever comes into our experience this blessed privilege is still ours, we can love. No wonder our dear Leader asks: "Do you Love?"
