"Miscellaneous Writings"
I want to express just a little of the gratitude I feel for what "Miscellaneous Writings" has done for me.
It has been such a help and comfort, and so many rough places have been made smooth through its messages of Love, that I should think every Christian Scientist would have a copy right at hand; and certainly those who are investigating the Truth of Christian Science, need it very much. Nothing would induce me to part with my copy, if I could not procure another.
It was first published just as I began to love Christian Science. I studied it faithfully for a year while working for the class, and many times while battling with that claim called self, I found just what I needed in this dear book, satisfying in every way. Its pages now are always new, I never tire of them; and as I gain in understanding they become clearer and more precious. I have just had such a beautiful demonstration over a case of sickness, through reading them, that I want to tell of it. An epidemic which has been going the rounds came tempting me, bringing much seeming discord. I was realizing the Truth, as we are taught to do in Christian Science, when the thought came so strongly, "I want 'Miscellaneous Writings.'" I felt it would meet the need, and turned to it as a child would to its mother. I opened to the one of the letters to one of the churches, and on page 151 I found the healing. I read it over and over, and although the demonstration was not instantaneous the relief was immediate. I was able to perform all my duties; and by the next evening, was rejoicing in the peace and freedom which comes after a battle well fought.
