Among the Churches

Sunday, April 29, witnessed an important event in the history of Christian Science in Topeka, Kan. The occasion was that of the opening service in the church building recently purchased by the Christian Scientists in that city. As space will not permit us to republish the detailed account of the service as given in the Topeka Daily Capital, we make the following extracts.

The opening on Sunday morning of the church building recently purchased by First Church of Christ, Scientist, corner Huntoon and Polk Streets, marked an epoch in the growth of Christian Science in this city. The church was beautifully decorated on the inside, the work having been designed by Mr. Joseph Twyman of Chicago. The colors are a blending of primrose yellow and ivory white, which brought out the thought of harmony and purity to a remarkable degree. The pulpit is a present to the church from the Sunday School, as was also the pulpit furniture. It was pure white, with the words carved on the front, "God is Love." The pulpit and steps leading to it were a perfect bower of palms and plants. This work was done by the ladies of the church, and was certainly beautiful to look upon.

On the west wall of the auditorium were the following quotations from Jesus: "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also." "All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth." Also on the north wall the following from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker G. Eddy: "Jesus' three days' work in the sepulchre set the seal of eternity on time. He proved Life to be deathless, and Love to be the master of hate."
