Among the Churches

The report of the clerk of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Grand Rapids, Mich., at the annual meeting held January 25, 1900, was in part as follows:—

The kindly and generous attitude of the press of this city, without a single exception, during the closing months of the past year, specially manifested in the advertising, and in the notices of our last lecture together with the cheerful publication of the lecture in full or a liberal report of the same, marks an important epoch in the history of Christian Science in Grand Rapids. This kindly and unanimous sentiment of friendship for the Truth on the part of the public press of the city is an oasis in the pathway of Christian Scientists in their journey through the wilderness of human beliefs, which gives hope and cheer to the seekers and demonstrators of Truth in every land.

It is with deep pleasure that I am able to report that during the past year we have had two lectures—one in May and the other in November. The blessings these have brought us as a church cannot well be measured. If the soil in which the seed of Love and Truth has been planted by these able and beautiful lectures was as well prepared as we believe it was, then will the harvest be most truly abundant.
