God Changes Not

In our ceaseless longing to gain a higher understanding of God and live better lives, we war in thought with our surroundings, and keep pulling the cords of error closer and closer by ever recurring to the hope that to-morrow, next week, or perhaps the coming year we shall be in a changed position where we can make greater demonstrations or see more clearly the Light. Through suffering we learn that we cannot run away or move away from error, but must stand in the strength of our God and see its nothingness. We are told in that wonderful "Crumb," from which the multitude is fed and there still remains seven baskets, that "Evil is not something to fear and flee before; . . . but, met with Science, it can and will be mastered by Science" (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 284).

Slowly but surely the lesson is being learned that, in so far as we can, it is well to demonstrate the Truth in the surroundings in which it found us until the fact is proved that there is no power to keep this Light from shining and being reflected from the darkest places. The light that shone to Daniel in the lion's den is reflected even unto this day. In Luke, 2:51, 52, we read, "He [Jesus] went down with them [his parents], and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: . . . and Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man." Now we know that the light did shine in the lion's den and Jesus, by abiding in his humble home, increased in wisdom and stature and favor with God and man; and we, by keeping our faces to the Light and clinging steadfastly to the thought that God changes not, can bring into our lives the realization that we, as God's children, need no change, but dwell now in the harmony of love, peace, and joy.
