The Power of Truth

That Christian Science comes to this age with healing in its wings can no longer be denied by sage or philosopher. After a million or more people have given in their testimony of the saving grace of this Truth, not alone from sickness, but from sin, the evidence is too preponderous for any one of sound sense or good judgment to deny the facts although there is occasionally some who will expose their ignorance by so doing.

While we all recognize the wonderful benefits derived from the healing of disease by the power of this Christ Truth, yet this alone is not to be compared with its power to heal from sin; and it is here that it gives its grand proofs of divinity, for while other isms so-called may seem to relieve suffering for the time being, there is no record of the regeneration of the sinner, while in Christian Science one of the most important factors of the treatment of sickness is the lifting of the patient on to a higher plane morally and spiritually. We find this is the testimony in nine cases out of ten, the patient recognizing a change in his heart and consciousness towards a better and higher life. If the patient has been living in a state of thought of ill-will toward a neighbor, he finds the neutralizing effect of Truth has destroyed this sense of ill-will, and left in its place nothing but a sense of love. Can a metaphysical treatment that destroys and unloosens the chains of sinful sense that are holding man in bondage to sin, sickness, and death, be so very bad as some would have you think? Do not all Christians desire to think rightly? But do they when allowing mortal thought to be so prejudiced that it is vested with envy, jealousy, and even hatred for a Truth that is based on a system of right thinking, and a people who are striving to have (as taught in Scripture) that Mind that was in Christ Jesus, or trying to assimilate that Christ thought which had the power to heal in Jesus' time?

We read in Science and Health, p. 155, "The Christlike understanding of Scientific Being and divine healing includes a perfect Principle and idea,—perfect God and perfect man,—as the basis of every thought."
