The Lectures

The large court room was crowded to the door Monday evening, October 23, by an audience representing the believers in Christian Science of this city and Philadelphia, as well as many who desired to become acquainted with the movement founded by Rev. Mary Baker Eddy, which is attracting so much attention throughout the country, owing to the many great cures that the leaders of the movement claim to have effected and the opposition the doctrine has met with on the part of medical schools and religious denominations.

The meeting was called by the Christian Science Church of this city, and the services of Mr. Carol Norton, C.S.D., of the International Board of Lectureship of the Mother Church of Christian Science, had been procured to deliver an address. The large audience was composed principally of people of intelligence and refinement, and the closest attention was given to the lecturer.

The meeting was opened by Rev. George Tomkins, D.D., C.S., who presided. In introducing the lecturer he said:—
