Thanksgiving reclaimed

I always think it’s strange to cross the international date line. When you go “westerly” across the Pacific Ocean, you drop a whole day. It’s the 23rd of a month, and then all of a sudden it’s the 25th.

My husband and I have experienced this several times, but on one journey it threatened to make a real difference.

One November, we were scheduled to fly from California to Australia via Hawaii. And when we checked our reservations a few weeks before the trip, we realized Thanksgiving Day was gone. Just plain gone.
