"Londoners will not be divided"

This article was written after July 7, 2005, the day a series of bombs shook central London, bringing the city to a standstill and leaving many people seriously—or fatally—wounded.

On July 7, I had a 10am appointment in my office, which is right by Tavistock Square. But then I had to cancel that appointment for another assignment, which kept me from going into London that day.

That morning, someone rang to ask me if I was okay—she had just heard about the bombs that exploded near my office. I ran to the TV to get the news.
