A prayer for London

Originally appeared on spirituality.com

A friend called on the morning of July 7 and asked if I'd heard about the attacks in London. She said she had been trying to pray but kept feeling fearful for the city she had once lived in and the people she still felt connected to.

"I know the place so well," she said.

Having lived in New York City, a few blocks from the World Trade Center, I understood how she felt. Though I no longer lived there on September 11, 2001, friendships and familiarity with the city made the horrible events of that morning feel very close and real to me.
