Feel overburdened? Prayer lifts the load

In Southern California, June is routinely a misty, foggy, overcast month. Just four blocks from where I’m writing are the bluffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. On a clear day, they're easy to see. But tourists standing at the intersection below can’t tell what’s beyond the next corner when what we call “June gloom” is blocking their view.

Recently I was dealing with a kind of gloom that made me feel a bit like those stranded tourists who can’t see the beach. I felt like I was on overload—there were so many demands on me and I couldn’t tell what to do first. I was trying to stay peaceful while still being alert, efficient and timely, but I wasn’t always meeting my goal.

Among other things, I was coordinating our family’s plans so that our daughter would have a well-balanced summer program. This required a very detailed calendar, timely payments, the proper equipment and transportation. It seemed that the planning was all about my ability (and my husband’s) to use our best human endeavors to get it together. At times I felt inadequate to pull it off.
