Finding peace at the altitude of prayer

My flight was miles up in the air before I realized I had left my laptop at a security checkpoint in one of the busiest airports in the country. My heart skipped a beat as I thought about the hundreds of family photos stored on that computer, not to mention all my freelance writing—my main source of income.

Panic crept in. The laptop would be easy for someone to steal. Or what if someone picked it up by mistake? I had no way of communicating with anyone on the ground, and no one on the plane could help. What was I going to do?

I prayed to pull my thoughts out of this cycle of anxiety and desperation. Thankfully, help was at hand. I travel with three books essential to my sense of peace—Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, a compilation of Mrs. Eddy’s shorter writings called Prose Works, and the Bible. All three offer practical instruction about God, our spiritual nature, and our relationship to Him.
