'Unfallen'

I was ready to go home after attending a happy evening to celebrate my oldest grandson’s twenty-first birthday. There were still a number of guests enjoying themselves in my daughter’s house, though some of us were leaving.

In all the excitement my daughter had misplaced the key to the front gate and so was directing people down the side of the house through the garage door. As I came out of the kitchen door, it was very dark and I had to go down a few steps. I felt my way carefully down two steps and didn’t realize there was one more. I missed my footing and lunged forward falling heavily onto the brick pathway, landing on my knees, wrists, and rib cage.

As I went down, I called out “man is unfallen,” meaning that, as God’s reflection, I could never be separated from His tender care. Although I felt extreme pain in various parts of my body, I managed to get up and walk down to the road where my car was parked. My daughter met me at this stage and helped me into the car. I felt I’d still be able to drive and I did not mention what had happened, as I did not want to be distracted from focusing on my prayers. I was also grateful that there had been nobody close by to witness what had taken place, which could have been another distraction from my prayers.
