Burned hand quickly healed
Though I have been a Christian Scientist most of my life, my inspiration and understanding have been greatly increased by the wonderful Internet outreach avenues from The Mother Church, including the online testimony meetings and the articles on ChristianScience.com. I feel as if I am truly “coming into my own” as a practicing Christian Scientist. A healing I had several months ago serves as an example. I was cooking a pot roast, and during that process it’s my practice to pour out accumulated broth and refrigerate it so I can skim hardened fat off the top. I was taking the roast out of the oven to do this when the pan slipped and the broth began to spill.
I was holding the pan’s side handle with one gloved hand, leaving the other hand free to open and close the oven. I grabbed for the opposite handle of the pan with the unprotected hand. I felt a burn immediately, but still tried to balance the pan to keep the roast from spilling by repeatedly grabbing for the handle. My husband heard the commotion and came to take the pan from me, ending the kitchen crisis.
When I went to wash the grease and broth off my hand I saw that my fingers were blistered. I immediately turned to God and thought, “Oh no, the claim of injury can’t get to me through God’s protective shield of Love.” With that I went on with my work, holding to the simple thought of God’s goodness and of my perfection as His expression.
