Let's see some ID

Your driver’s license or ID card probably lists lots of factors that are considered to be part of your identity: age, gender, hair and eye color, height, and so forth. But do these quantifiable measures really define you?

This issue of the Sentinel takes a different approach to identity. Authors examine the spiritual qualities that originate with God and that we reflect as His emanation—qualities such as honesty, love, receptivity, and clarity. These qualities form our real self—you can think of them like a spiritual ID card.

In the lead article, Ruth Geyer compares our identity to a divine song that constantly reminds us of our unimpeachable perfection. She writes: “An angel thought of our better sense regrounds us in God’s goodness, grace, and light. . . . With self silent, we can hear God singing our true identity” (p. 6). Elsewhere in our cover section, Annette Kreutziger-Herr tells how a clearer concept of selfhood healed her of a fear of horses (p. 10), and Matthew Udeochu shares how a missing ID card led him to a firmer grasp of what truly constitutes his makeup (p. 12).
