No longer a wallflower

Two summers ago, I got to work as a CIT [Counselor in Training] at a summer camp for Christian Scientists. I had such a great time. The people, the adventures, the campers, everything about the experience was just a blast. I felt accepted for who I was, supported by my friends and counselors, and excited about the work I was doing.

But then the summer ended, and I came home from camp.

I was a wreck. After what I’d experienced that summer, I felt I had no friends at home, that my only friends were at camp. To make matters worse, my best friend from home was going to be an exchange student in India for an entire year. I started attending a new public school that year, too, so that made everything even harder.
