Under God's government

Financial matters—budget deficits, taxes, and spending—are much in the news in the United States, even as the Eurozone nations work to stabilize the euro and the economies of Greece, Italy, and Spain. Eurozone leaders such as Angela Merkel and Nicholas Sarkozy have devoted endless hours to working with their European partners in the search for answers to these immediate challenges and to related issues like long-term unemployment, a problem that also afflicts the United States.

Specific and scientific prayer can help to supply those answers. And the spiritual insights in a short article originally written for the Boston Herald in 1898 by Mary Baker Eddy provide a sound basis for such prayer.

“To coincide with God’s government is the proper incentive to the action of all nations,” she wrote (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 278). Spiritual thinkers who wish to help the global economy can support this coincidence with God’s government by lifting their thoughts fearlessly above the belief that the future is dependent on many human minds struggling and failing to find a solution.
