Active and free

Recently, I went to a party that offered horseback riding. I had a good ride, working well with the horse and challenging myself. As I was getting down, a friend said, “Boy, you’ll feel that tomorrow,” meaning that I could expect soreness. And I responded with something like, “I’m not even mentally going there.”

I responded that way because I have learned through Christian Science that my spiritual nature, the substance of what I embody, is not material, so neither the horse nor I had to suffer for being active.

For the next two days I felt fine, but on the evening of the third day I was in great pain and could barely stand. When I went to a church testimony meeting that evening, I was able to sit down and listen to the service as usual and didn’t mention anything to anyone about what I was going through. Another friend who was at the party, and who also had been horseback riding, assumed I was fine and came up to me later. She said that my quick words about “not mentally going there” really seemed to have been effective.
