“Lecture” is an interesting word. Does it conjure up remembrances of high school or college classes that lasted too long, or a lecture from your mom or dad about cleaning your room, not driving too fast, or being more responsible?

When Mary Baker Eddy had the vision to write Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures and The Manual of the Mother Church, lectures were a very acceptable and wonderful forum for communication. There were no televisions, iPads, iPhones, or other competing forms of technology. In the Manual, there is a requirement that Christian Science churches hold at least one lecture every year.

Earlier this year, our lecture committee met to plan our church lecture. When thinking about our venue, we first considered our remodeled Sunday School, but settled on the large, beautiful grassy area outside our church. We had not hosted a lecture at our church for many years, but this just felt right.
