In this series, individuals share how taking Christian Science Primary class instruction has strengthened their spiritual understanding, and brought increasing inspiration and healing to their lives.

Thoughts about association day

After an individual has had class instruction, he or she attends a yearly association meeting, which is made up of all the pupils taught by that particular teacher of Christian Science. The teacher addresses the association, providing pupils with an opportunity for further spiritual education and progress.

I was sitting in my favorite chair recently, praying about the Christian Science association that I belong to when this citation from Mary Baker Eddy’s book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures came to mind: “The rays of infinite Truth, when gathered into the focus of ideas, bring light instantaneously, whereas a thousand years of human doctrines, hypotheses, and vague conjectures emit no such effulgence” (p. 504).

I realized that each of the members of a Christian Science association can be thought of as individual “rays of infinite Truth.” Annually on association day, we come together with a focus on a set of common spiritual ideas as expressed in the day’s address. As we prayerfully ponder those spiritual ideas, the light of understanding gets brighter and nearer in our thought.
