You are the beloved of God

For the lesson titled "Man" from August 29–September 4, 2011

In the fewest of words, “Thou art greatly beloved,” (Dan. 9:23) the Golden Text of this week’s Bible Lesson, titled “Man,” fills our deepest need—to be loved.

Daniel, who received this message from the angel Gabriel, had been in exile for 70 years. Yet the more he learned of God’s love for him and God’s nearness to him, the more he was raised up out of the depths. For Daniel, the comfort brought by angel messages was palpable. He actually felt the grip of a man’s hand gradually lifting and strengthening him (see Dan., chap. 10, citation 13).

Others in enemy hands in foreign lands also felt “beloved of the Lord” (Deut. 33:12, cit. 8). Baby Moses and his family in Egypt, for instance, under Pharaoh himself, were ultimately safe from danger (Ex. 2:1–8, cit. 10). Science and Health shows how our safety is the result of God and man being “coexistent and eternal” (p. 581, cit. 9).
