Soccer season kickoff

I grew up in a family of Christian Scientists and attended Christian Science Sunday School. Because I constantly saw my family members applying Christian Science to problems in their lives, I was very comfortable with the idea of prayer and relying on God for healing.

My life ran very smoothly—I didn’t have too many injuries or serious situations growing up—so most of the time that I was praying, it was for the benefit of one of my friends or someone I knew. So one time a few years ago, when I encountered a situation of having to rely on Christian Science for my own healing, I was pleased to see that I could handle it just like I had been taught in Sunday School. The quickness and efficiency of the healing surprised me—even though I had grown up seeing evidence of the power of God!

It was at the opening kickoff of the first soccer game of the season. Even though I had taken a few seasons off from playing, I actually felt like I was a stronger player than the last season I had played. I had still been practicing a lot during my time away from the team, and had been steadily improving. Plus, I felt like taking the time off had let me recharge so that I could give it my all. I couldn’t wait to get on the field and try as hard as I could.
