The grace that lifts our burdens

How gentle God’s commands,
How kind His precepts are;
Come, cast your burdens on the Lord,
And trust His constant care.

—Philip Doddridge, Christian Science Hymnal, No. 124

Do you think it’s possible to live a burden-free life? For one drooping under the pressure of deadlines, mounting debt, unemployment, failing health, overwhelming family or church responsibilities, guilt, or any other sense of burden, the prospect of turning the corner and leaving the heaviness behind might seem impracticable or too good to be true. But it’s not. The Bible maps out practical solutions to heavyweight problems. Christ Jesus said, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (Matt. 11:28–30).
