Hearing restored
Decades ago, I noticed quite a loss of hearing in my left ear. I was not a student of Christian Science at that time; in fact, I knew nothing about it. When I started working for the government later, I had to take a physical, in which they checked my hearing. The job I had applied for was not given to me, because of my hearing issue. But I was given another position, which in time I realized was a right fit for me.
Years later, my wife became interested in Christian Science. One day she said, “Why don’t we get that hearing fixed once and for all?” I didn’t think it was possible that my hearing could be restored through Christian Science, so I didn’t think much about it. As time progressed, my wife became a member of The Mother Church, and I started to go to Wednesday evening testimony meetings with her at a local Christian Science branch church. Later my attendance extended to the Sunday morning services. My wife’s interest in Christian Science finally took hold of me, too, and we both experienced many healings.
Eventually, my wife and I began praying together about the situation with my hearing. We knew that Jesus healed people instantly through knowing them as God knew them. Jesus saw them as perfect, and the Bible assures us “We have the mind of Christ” (I Cor. 2:16). And Jesus promised, “He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do” (John 14:12). I felt that following in Jesus’ footsteps meant seeing myself as spiritually pure.
