Ready, set, go

Lest summer, as part of the Junior Life Guards' program, I entered the "Ironman" exercise for 9-to 14-year-olds. It was my first time doing the Ironman.

Here's what we had to do. First, we ran along the beach, and then swam twice around what's called Buddy's Buoy in the ocean. After that, we ran or jogged for two miles, then swam twice around another buoy. Then we did more running—a total of six miles in all.

I did very well. But there came a time when I needed to walk, instead of run, because I was hurting. I really wanted to finish the race. So I kept going, and I thought about what I'd learned in Sunday School—that God is everywhere. I felt confident that I was strong enough to finish the race because God was there helping me.
