How to be joyful

Jesus started his famous "Sermon on the Mount" with the Beatitudes. Can you find this sermon in the Bible? (Hint: Look in the book of Matthew.) THE BEATITUDES tells us about different ways to be happy. Here is what a class of 6th and 7th graders learned when they studied the Beatitudes. All of these kids attend a Christian Science Sunday School in Ohio.

The Beatitudes teach us that.

...God is Love.

David Barns

...God will comfort the sad people. Also, if you look for good, you will find good.

Will Skelton

... you should do good to others, even if it's not easy.

Emily Merickel

... you can be a peacemaker. One time my brother got in a fight with someone over a pencil. All of a sudden. I looked over and they were rolling on the grass. So I ran over to them and said, "Stop, you two are friends! You shouldn't be fighting!" And they stopped and said they were sorry to each to other.

Samantha Scott

... if you pray for peace and stuff like that, God will help you. If there's a fight in school and you break up the fight, that's what God wants you to do, so you are God's child. To be "meek" and "inherit" means if you don't brag or say. "I'm the best," people will like you. If you do the right thing, you will be filled with God's love.

Addy Bemis

... Jesus loved us, and he wanted to set rules for us so we would be joyful. We can use the Beatitudes as rules in our daily lives.
