A SPIRITUAL APPROACH TO HEALING URBAN VIOLENCE
Last month, spirituality.com hosted a live internet chat with VERTA DRIVER, a Christian Science practitioner from Seattle, Washington. She responded to questions from site visitors on how to address violence, especially among young people.
Verta is one of 20 volunteer chaplains with the Seattle Police Department. Their function is to accompany officers to those situations where spiritual support and counseling may be needed. (For example, in response to a shooting or killing, a chaplain may accompany the officer who notifies the victim's family.)
The following excerpts have been edited for publication. To listen to the whole chat, go to www.spirituality.com/chats/urbanviolence.
