School Stories

This year I was chosen to swim freestyle in our Top Six gala [swim meet] at school We had to swim a whole length of the pool—and it's a huge pool! There were hundreds of people watching as we walked up to the starting blocks. I was so scared, my legs were shaking.

I looked across the pool and saw my mom waving at me. If she had been with me, I know she would have said, "You don't have to be afraid. God is right beside you. He will take care of you and help you swim the whole length. He is strong and never gets tired. And remember, He's not just your God. He's everyone's God. He will help all of you swimming in the race. I don't mind if you don't win. I'll still be proud of you."

Soon we were ready to start. My legs were still shaking, but I remembered that God was helping me. I felt as though God really was there with me. The starter's gun went off with a very loud bang. It gave us quite a fright. But I dived as far as I could and started swimming.
