THROUGH A SPIRITUAL LENS
I DO LIKE TO BE BESIDE THE SEASIDE
People of all ages, the world over, love the seaside. Relaxing, splashing in the sea, building the biggest sandcastle, playing cricket, reading a book, eating ice cream, being together as a family. Those were my summer holidays when I was growing up. Pure bliss.
Recently I was commissioned to photograph the famous beach huts at Southwold Beach in Suffolk. A perfect opportunity to recapture some of the joys of my childhood. However, it was a gray day, and the beach was almost deserted. I struggled for inspiration.
So I decided to go for a walk, soak up the atmosphere, and listen. Sure, I could shoot the huts in a row from the front, going into the distance. But they were all shut up. They looked unloved and devoid of the warmth, fun, and family spirit of days gone by.
