DIAGNOSED CATARACT GONE WITHOUT A TRACE

A few years ago, while I was having my eyes tested for new glasses, the optometrist told me that a cataract was forming in one eye. He said that people my age, those in their senior years, had to watch out for these kinds of eye problems. His prediction was that the cataract would eventually impair my vision and that I'd need to have surgery to correct it.

It never crossed my mind that I would have surgery for this challenge with my eye. I had seen my mother healed of incapacitating migraine headaches through Christian Science treatment, and have also relied successfully on this spiritual form of treatment for my own healing. So when the optometrist made his diagnosis, one of my first thoughts was something Jesus said to his followers: "First cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye" (Matt. 7:5). This was a Bible verse I knew by heart, and I felt it related to this situation.

To me, this was direction from God to watch how I was viewing everyone with whom I came in contact each day. For example, if someone's actions were disturbing to me in some way, I did my best to examine my own thoughts to be sure I wasn't being critical or judgmental of them. Jesus also placed great value on the commandment to "love thy neighbour as thyself" (Lev. 19:18). This was something I did my best to observe.
