The peace of God
One of the requirements of members of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, given in the Church Manual reads in part: "It shall be the duty of every member of this Church to defend himself daily against aggressive mental suggestion ..." (p. 42). That means that each day, as a Church member, I strive to remove thoughts of evil from my thinking. I have learned that I can do this only by knowing God. It is through knowing God and obeying His laws that truth fills our consciousness. And since thought precedes action, the conditions of the universe—including of humankind—depend upon the state of our consciousness.
Through my spiritual studies, I have come to understand that divine Mind is the only mind there is. This Mind is God. It knows only of itself and is the only consciousness there is. Mary Baker Eddy's book Science and Health states: "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all" (p. 468). Infinite Mind is reflected by humankind and the universe. We are the infinite expression of Mind.
Each one of us is the idea of this Mind. You and I are the externalized consciousness of this Mind. It follows, then, that in order for there to be harmony in our lives, humanity must strive to keep its thoughts attuned to the divine Mind.
