I NEEDED TO HEAL MY RELATIONSHIP WITH MY DAD
I was getting an annual physical required for my service in the US Army. And I had an EKG. They told me that I had a heart problem that could require surgery.
I said, "You know, I really need about a week to go and pray about this." My doctor supported that, knowing that I always turned to God for healing. I was then a Christian Science chaplain at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
So I took a week off, and I decided I really needed to figure out what to pray about in looking for a spiritual healing of this heart condition. I'd learned early on that when I had a physical difficulty, there was often a spiritual lesson to be learned. And I had to make the decision right then, which I did—that I was going to be blessed by this experience and that I was going to have a healing.
