Prayer: a practical response

"I've just heard about a wonderful healing," a member of the staff told us at our weekly planning meeting. She recounted an abbreviated version of the experiences you'll read about in this week's cover story. So we asked both mother and daughter to write about the experience, each from their own standpoints. Both of them trusted God completely, but each had individual opportunities to prove that this trust had a solid spiritual foundation.

From the moment when a policeman told the daughter she was going to the hospital whether she wanted to or not, to the time later that day when she and her family were going home, their conviction of God's presence sustained them. Yes, more prayer was needed after they got home, but their desire to rely on God was unshaken.

Refusing to see their family and the doctors as in opposing "camps," they were able to deal with pressure from medical personnel to have surgery. Yet this did not deprive them of healing. They just wanted to be free to experience the kind of healing that comes through an understanding of God's laws.
