A home you can't lose

At about 6 a.m. my hotel room in St. Louis, Missouri, shook up and down. It's a scary feeling, to wake up with an earthquake! My grandmother used to tell stories about frequent quakes during her childhood in Lima, Peru. The safest shelter, she advised, was under the nearest doorframe, where things wouldn't fall on your head.

This time, just a slight tremor made me run to a different kind of shelter. Not a physical location, but the instant awareness that I lived in the presence of a supreme power that controlled everything in perfect harmony. What a comforting feeling—to know that there is a safe refuge wherever we are! And that's where our real home is established, indestructible, grounded in the presence of the Principle of all existence, in God's reality—a spiritual universe. Actually, no one can ever be jolted out of it.
