"I wanted to pray for myself"
Several weeks ago, coming home from an outing, I had a severe stomachache. It was hard for me to keep anything down. At the same time, I had a very high fever and diarrhea.
I really wanted to turn to God and pray for myself.
I tried to understand what Science and Health means when it says that “there is no pain in Truth [God], and no truth in pain” (p. 113). God is Truth, and God is All.
My mother read to me. Part of what she read said this: “Remember that man's perfection is real and unimpeachable, whereas imperfection is blameworthy, unreal, and is not brought about by divine Love.” That is also from Science and Health (p. 414). and God is the “divine Love” it is talking about.
I sang a hymn that starts “Shepherd, show me how to go/ O'er the hillside steep ....” It's about how God is like a shepherd. He was leading me over a big mountain to safety.
The fever disappeared overnight. Very soon I was also completely healed of the diarrhea, and I could eat again.
I'm grateful to be in Sunday School, where I learn how God is Love and how no one can ever be separated from the power of Love. It heals us!
