What Parent Hasn't heard this question from his or her child at least a dozen times, and usually within the first couple of hours of a journey: "When are we going to get there?"
Do you suppose that Jesus' own disciples wondered the same thing after they learned from him that the kingdom of heaven was within their grasp? "OK, so when do we arrive?" might have crossed their minds more than once during their travels together and throughout their individual spiritual journeys. The evidence suggests that along the way they had their doubts as to when and if their Saviour would reign, making life much more heavenly than before. In fact right up to the end, at the cross, they didn't act as though they believed their lives were going to change for the better anytime soon.
But after the resurrection, some of Jesus' followers understood things they had not fully grasped before. Reality broke through to them. They were amazed at what was happening to their lives, and they knew the good news had to be shared.
