Knee pain fully healed
Translated from German
In early 1995, I started feeling pain in my knee with certain movements, especially when walking any distance. I rejected the belief of pain, that it can have reality or power, and affirmed my perfection as God's perfect child. There was some improvement.
That summer, my wife and I spent our vacation in the mountains, hiking about twenty kilometers almost every day.
One day, while I was in a department store, I was almost overwhelmed by this pain. At first I thought I wouldn't be able to bear it. But as I stood there on one leg, the thought came to me, "God is mightier than the pain!" With this, I started praying the Lord's Prayer. My consciousness was filled with the conviction that the Lord's Prayer had to heal me at that very moment. I have always been fond of the following sentence in the chapter "Prayer" in Science and Health: "Our Master said, 'After this manner therefore pray ye,' and then he gave that prayer which covers all human needs" (p. 16).
With all my heart, I affirmed that a thought from the Lord's Prayer could and must heal me. The pain lessened somewhat. I found a place to sit down, where I continued to pray: "Thy kingdom come." "Thy kingdom is come; Thou art ever-present" (ibid.). I affirmed: Divine Love fills all space, and it is present now, right here where I am, right where evil seems to be, right where pain seems to be. Nothing but divine Love is real or present.
I started to feel calm, joyous, and assured. The divine order, I was convinced, was present, and I could not experience anything other than this divine order. This was the Christ coming to me—correcting, calming, healing me—and in these minutes I experienced the truth of what Mary Baker Eddy says in Science and Health: "Only as we rise above all material sensuousness and sin, can we reach the heaven-born aspiration and spiritual consciousness, which is indicated in the Lord's Prayer and which instantaneously heals the sick" (ibid.).
Shortly thereafter, I was able to walk without pain. Two days later, I felt that everything was all right with my knee. That summer, my wife and I spent our vacation in the mountains, hiking about twenty kilometers almost every day, without the slightest difficulty.
I am very grateful that Christian Science has come into my life, and that I have been able to experience God's restorative power time and again for many years now.
