"Most stolen book in print"

The Lowell (MA) Sun

THE GIDEONS HAVE been putting Bibles in hotels and hospitals since 1908. Many people take the book, but replace it through the Gideons so someone else can be helped by the Scriptures.

William R. Amerson is a volunteer for the Gideons. In a recent assignment, he was giving out Bibles to students at the Middlesex Community College in Lowell, Massachusetts. Not everyone receives the book gladly, but Amerson is not discouraged: "I think students are neat," he said. "Most of them are courteous and thankful. Every once in a while someone is objectionable, but I don't mind."
