Ivy poisoning and feelings of fatherlessness healed

I would like to tell of a healing that my son John had when he was about nine years of age. He had an irritation on his skin, ivy poisoning, that did not quickly yield to our prayers at the time.

I read the weekly Bible Lesson from the Christian Science Quarterly to him each day, as well as articles by Mary Baker Eddy, and I sang hymns from the Christian Science Hymnal to him. After about three days he was getting pretty tired, and so was I. Finally, in the evening I sat on the floor besides him and closed my eyes to pray. I said, "Dear Father, please tell me what I need to know." In a few minutes I picked up my Bible and opened it to Proverbs. I started to read to my son, starting with chapter one. When I got to verse eight, I read, "My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother."

"My son" continues to appear through many other chapters that tell of father's wise instruction. After reading all thirty-one chapters, I talked to my son and told him there was nothing he would want to ask his dad that was not answered in the book of Proverbs, and I assured him that he could turn to it, and to God, his Father-Mother, anytime.
