To Our Readers

A recent column by Ann Landers highlighted some misprints and malapropisms that had first appeared in various classified advertising sections of newspapers around the United States. One of my favorites offered a service for sewing machines, but with a little "extra" added: "We will oil your sewing machine and adjust tension in your home for $1."

Well, who wouldn't pay a dollar—or a whole lot more—to bring a bit of peace to family life, especially on those days when everything seems to be coming apart? Too much to do. Not enough time. Too many demands from work, children, husbands, wives, the kids' schoolwork or after-school activities, on and on.

Where do we turn for help and real peace? The world would suggest many options, which usually end up being pretty unsatisfying. But in our Cover Story this week and in an interview with the publisher of a newspaper that's specifically aimed at providing support to parents, we get a different perspective. What's discussed is a way of looking at life through the lens of spiritual cause and effect, and discovering how God's presence in family life makes a substantial difference. Our Cover Story illustrates how prayer and spiritual values bring stability, direction, peace, and a satisfying solution to the push and pull of busy lives and busy families.
