The first sentence in the first chapter of Science and Health says...

The first sentence in the first chapter of Science and Health says, "The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God,—a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love." During the early part of last year, I had the opportunity to prove that statement to myself.

For many years I had been plagued with increasingly intense attacks of asthma. I would be incapacitated for weeks at a time. In addition to the asthmatic seizures, I suffered from allergies, regular bouts with bronchitis, and miserable hay fever for about fifteen years. As the years went on and the attacks became more frequent, I became discouraged. I was living with a belief that this particular healing was impossible. What I needed was a recognition of the possible.

I continued my study of Christian Science. Although this particular difficulty persisted, I enjoyed many other wonderful healings and proofs of God's care. One that stands out occurred when I fell with my full weight on one hand, on a shattered glass bottle. Over the next few weeks, most of the cuts on my hand disappeared, except for one large scab in the middle of my palm that did not heal. The scab was abnormal, unattractive, and it itched! I even thought about having it removed surgically.
