I am so grateful for the healing I had through reading the Bible...
I am so grateful for the healing I had through reading the Bible and Science and Health, which my son gave me in 1990, and hope that my testimony will help someone who needs healing. Although I had studied the Bible from boyhood, I yearned to understand it. This understanding I found in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, which gives one a spiritual understanding of the Scriptures.
I silently prayed to let Christ destroy all ills .... I was instantly healed, and converted by truth.
I had been enslaved by the habit of smoking cigarettes, and the drinking of beer and wine. Sickness afflicted me and my entire family nearly every day of the year. I called for church elders to come and pray over sickness, but there was no healing. I sold some cows to pay for the medical drugs to heal the sickness, but in a few months it reappeared.
Science and Health says, "An apostle says that the Son of God [Christ] came to 'destroy the works of the devil.' We should follow our divine Exemplar, and seek the destruction of all evil works, error and disease included" (p. 5). I was then led to a more thorough study of the Bible, and began to pray to correct any evil works and errors within my own heart by following what our Master said: "If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it" (John 14:14). I silently prayed to let Christ destroy all ills that proceed from mortal mind. I was instantly healed, and converted by truth. Neither alcoholic drinks, tobacco, nor sickness has had any appeal for me for the past five years. Truth has made me "a new creature" in whom "old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new" (II Cor. 5:17).
Thanks be to Mrs. Eddy for the establishment of the Church she founded to worship therein spiritually, and for the final revelation of the absolute divine Principle of scientific mental healing that she shared worldwide. "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night" (Ps. 1:1, 2).
