Answered prayer and our own responsibility

For nearly two thousand years Christians have taken courage, even in the most difficult of times, from a singular promise of their Master. "And all things," Christ Jesus told his disciples, "whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive" (Matt. 21:22).

For Jesus' followers, prayer should become as natural as breathing. It is the way of worshiping God at any time, in any place. Prayer is also the way to divine guidance and to obedience; it is pure gratitude and praise, humble communion with the Father, the heart yielding to Christ. And when prayer unites spiritual understanding, unselfed love, and inspiration, it is God's gracious way of regeneration and Christian healing.

The challenges confronting humanity today, and those in our own personal lives, cry out for the answers that only prayer can provide. And the yearning for peace, for comfort, for direction and healing, is not disappointed in turning absolutely to God.
