FROM HAND TO HAND

I was born into a loving family which had no religious faith, and yet my father sent my sister and me to a church school. In my class over half of us had been baptized in other churches. There was never any pressure to convert us, although I left school knowing that the religious affiliation of the school was not for me. I was searching for religious teachings that would satisfy my desire for more spirituality and would acknowledge the importance of prayer.

Although I went to other churches, I just couldn't find God there, and so I gave up trying and just prayed at home. Later I married and had a beautiful daughter. My marriage failed, and my husband became ill and died. In the shock of this, I lost faith completely for some time.

Gradually, however, I began to pray again. I would go into empty churches and sit in the stillness trying to sense God there. This went on for many years. I married again and life continued. Then, quite out of the blue, my second husband became terribly ill. In despair I went into a church and begged God for his life. To my great joy he recovered, but still I couldn't find what I was searching for.
