Christian physicians; and the joy of singing

In this week's column we share an open letter from Christian physicians to their patients; and we reflect on the joy of singing, especially at Christmas.

It's always encouraging when those in the medical profession look beyond physical causes of disease and material remedies. It's even more encouraging when doctors ask their patients to do the same thing. The following letter was written during a weekend retreat for physicians and psychologists in Paris, and published in a Swiss newsletter last year.

"We do not have the habit of writing you. You have the right to expect from us the professional competence to serve your health needs, but it is just because of our duty to serve you effectively that we are taking the liberty of sending this letter, a friendly letter, which the urgency of a more powerful truth requires of us.
