Many benefits have come to me through the study and practice of Christian Science, but a healing that occurred some years ago really stands out to me.

I was walking our daughter to her swimming practice one day when all of a sudden I could barely breathe. I told her to go on, and I sat down and just prayed to God for help. After spending a few minutes deeply considering spiritual truths of God and His care for man, I had some relief.

Things still were not normal, so when I returned home I called a Christian Science practitioner for help through prayer. We spoke of man's eternal oneness with God. She also shared inspiring statements from the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, including one from Acts that refers to God as giving "to all life, and breath, and all things." After a while I was breathing normally.

About a week later I woke in the middle of the night gasping for breath. This time I appeared to stop breathing and lost consciousness. Frightened, my husband called the fire department, and they took me to a hospital.

When I regained consciousness, I asked for a telephone and called a practitioner. Soon I was able to leave to go to a nursing facility for Christian Scientists. Prayerful help from a practitioner was resumed. With quiet daily study and continued prayer, my healing was soon complete.

During this time I learned that God is with us at all times. I didn't let fears and concerns about my physical well-being become predominant; instead I let assurances from Truth and Love flood my thinking. Science and Health states, "Christian scientific practice begins with Christ's keynote of harmony, 'Be not afraid!'"

I am grateful to God and for the revelation of this Science of being. Mrs. Eddy's book Science and Health has so illumined the words and works of Christ Jesus that I feel I have some degree of understanding of the healing truths he taught.
