I am grateful that I was raised in a family where Christian Science was actively lived. I had healings of many kinds while I was growing up. My mother often helped me through prayer, and I was also taught to pray for myself.

It wasn't until I was in my late teens, living in a city very far from family and friends, that I realized Christian Science was indeed the way of life for me. Having lots of time to myself, as I knew almost no one in town, and being faced with several tough problems, I spent a good deal of my time studying this Science and praying. It became clear to me that the only satisfactory answers were the ones that Christian Science provides. From that point on, I have relied upon an understanding of Science to meet the challenges of daily life.

While playing tennis one day I suddenly had a sharp pain in my leg. The game had to be stopped. The pain passed quickly, however, and little was made of the incident. A few weeks later the trouble occurred again. This time the pain was much worse, and it was extremely difficult to get to the car. My opponent suggested that we not play again that season, to give my leg time to heal properly.
